Six large Tiwi ceremonial spears, Tiwi group, Melville and Bathurst Islands, Northern Territory, carved and engraved hardwood with natural earth pigment (no custom stands) Tiwi ceremonial spears are a special form of elaborately carved and painted spear used in ceremonial display rather than as functional weapons or implements.
