Description:
Railway travel poster, 'Travel across Australia by the Trans-Australian railway: Go by train - Save Days', colour lithographic poster published for the Commonwealth Railways Commissioner and printed by A.J. Mullett, Government Printer, Melbourne, circa 1917, 62 x 49 cm. Laid down on linen. In 1917 the existing lines connecting Rockhampton - Brisbane - Sydney - Melbourne and Adelaide were joined to the final sections which brought the port Augusta to Kalgoorlie and Perth sections into the national grid. This poster appears to be a very early invitation to use the new cost-to-coast service. The first example we have seen.
