Description:
A Louis XV style carved giltwood salon suite, 19th century, comprising a canape, a pair of fauteuil and a pair of salon chairs, each with a floriate carved crest rail centred by a shell anthemion, upholstered in cream floral satin, length of back of the canape 164 cm, 108 cm high, 168 cm wide, 65 cm deep. Provenance: Private Collection Melbourne. The collection of Freddy Asmussen. Other Notes: Freddy Asmussen was the head of display at the Myer Emporium in Melbourne during the 1950's and 60's and was responsible for the famous Myer Christmas windows.He enjoyed the patronage and favour of Dame Merlyn Myer and and his office was filled with ornate French gilded furniture. The present suite was reputed to have been lent by him for an event at the Melbourne town hall to accomodate seating for the Queen during her 1952 tour of Australia.
