i) A Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica Female Figurine Tlatilco culture (Central Mexico) Middle Preclassic period, circa 1200BC - 900BC Painted earthenware Height: 15.5 cm Note: Tlatilco was one of the first chiefdom centres to arise in the valley of Mexico, flourishing on the western shores of Lake Texcoco. It is noted for its clay figurines of nude women with fantastic coiffures. The meaning of these intimate works is not known. ii) A Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica Female Figurine Colima culture (Western Mexico) Preclassic period, circa 100BC - 250AD Earthenware Height: 19.5 cm Note: An enormously varied array of fanciful terracotta figurines was produced by the Colima culture.
