Description:
A Rare Award Medal From An Early Colonial Cricket Match, The Ancient Order of Foresters (A.O.F.) was established in Victoria by 1849. Foresters was a non-profit organisation, the founding principle being to provide financial and social benefits as well as support to members and their families in times of unemployment, sickness, death, disability and old age. The various chapters were referred to as 'Courts'. The present silver medal, awarded to 'A. Cherry' is engraved 'Court Richmond v Court Brunswick - Highest Score for Richmond won by A. Cherry' and on reverse shows a batsman at wicket with 'A.O.F.' at top and 'Cricket Match' below. Although undated, this medal is probably of 1860s-70s vintage.
