A smokey quartz intaglio and crystal bead bracelet, comprising four rows of clear and smoky quartz faceted beads set to the centre with an intaglio in gold mount and with a gold Medusa clasp, the intaglio showing Palaemon (Palaimon) riding a sea-creature. Palaemon was a sea-god protector of sailors and fishermen who was primarily depicted as a boy riding a dolphin-back. He was originally the boy Melicertes, child of Ino of Thebes. His father was driven mad by Hera, and Ino, fleeing his wrath, leapt into the sea with the child where the two were transformed into marine divinities.
