(Attributed to the 'Bush Artist') Two Australian landscapes Oil on gum leaves Eustace, Alfred William 14 x 15 cm 14 x 15 cm and 11 x 15 cm (approx) Note labels verso marked 'Evelyn Browne Cave'. Evelyn Cave was the wife of the rector of St. Thomas's Church, North Sydney. The self taught painter Alfred Eustace arrived in Melbourne in 1851 and gained employment as a jackaroo near Chiltern. He became the eccentric 'Bush Artist' who painted on to gum leaves and received commissions from abroad including Emporer Frederick of Germany, the Tsar of Russia and Queen Victoria.
