Description:
A circa 1890 Y Class (Y383) steam locomotive (200 x 35 x 50 mm), green livery and gold trim, 0-6-0 wheel configuration, with type Av & Ab passenger carriages, total size 695 x 35 x 50 mm. (4 items) (the first R Class locomotive was built by Kitson & Co (Leeds, England) and was exhibited at the Melbourne Centennial exhibition held in 1888. a further 30 examples were built at the phoenix foundry in 1888-89, and allocated (odd) road numbers between 383 (this example) and 441. They were the most powerful 0-6-0s to run in Australia, excelling in performance and popular with crews. Withdrawal commenced in 1926 with the last in regular service decommissioned in the 1950s).
