Description:
Good George III sterling silver coffee pot, hallmarked, London, 1762, Daniel Smith and Robert sharp, of pear form, with domed cover and spiraled finial, flanked by s-scroll handle and shell caped spout, on stepped spreading circular foot, engraved motto 'deus pascit corvos' (God Feeds the Ravens), total weight 882gm, height 26.5 cm Comparative Literature: a very similar example was sold by Bonhams, Sydney as lot 174 from the Owston Collection on 25 June 2010. Other Notes: the Latin motto is a reference from the bible, specifically Luke 12:24. 'Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them'. The symbolism behind it is that God cares for crows, but loves humans more. It is a message to remind US to be grateful for what we have, as well as God's love.
