Description:
A large Chinese ivory Mountain, late 19th/early 20th century. Finely carved and undercut with an elaborate scene of monks riding up a narrow pathway, beside pines and bamboo, and over a raging torrent to a temple atop of a sacred mountain, a group of figures taking tea in a small pavilion en route, silver-inlaid hardwood stand, fitted box. Height 28 cm. See Chinese Ivories from the Shang to the Qing, Exhibition by Ocs and British Museum, 1984, cat No. 269, p 189, for a similar example (from the Sassoon cat No. 902)
