Description:
An unusual Colonial campaign chest, C. 1895, in rimu and kauri, New Zealand made but stylistically north German, carved canted front feet and rear bracket free, reeded side columns, five drawers with Bramah brass escutcheons and flush-mounted campaign handles. It is important to note that at the turn of the century, the second largest of group of immigrants to New Zealand were Germans and their influence is not often seen, especially in the very Anglo-centric colonial furniture of the time making this piece all the more significant, height 133 cm, width 93 cm, depth 44 cm
