Newspaper Coverage of the Kelly Gang - November 1878 to April 1881, A fascinating collection of 48 complete original newspapers, all of which provide significant coverage of the activities, capture, deaths and trial of the members of the Kelly Gang. Starting with the Sydney Morning Herald of November 12, 1878, with the heading 'The Bushranging Outrages in Victoria' to the Smh of January 1 1879, with the heading 'Five Thousand Pounds reward - The Kelly Gang Still at Large' and the Smh of June 28, 1880, with 'Fresh Outrage by the Kelly Gang'and the Otago Times of July 8, 1880 which carried 'The Kelly Gang - Interview with Ned Kelly'. The South Australian Register of July 10, 1880, carries two full pages titled 'The Victorian Bushranger - Destruction of the Kelly Gang' while the Smh of July 13, 1880, reported on 'The Black Trackers and the Kelly Gang' followed on July 15 by 'Capture of the Kelly Gang.' There are numerous articles over several months regarding the 'Trial of Ned Kelly' and the collection concludes with coverage of the execution and a report detailing 'The Rewards for the Apprehension of the Kellys'., Overall in excellent condition, this assemblage of contemporary reportage provides a remarkable insight into the way the media of the day dealt with one of the most notorious and fascinating episodes in Australia's history.
