Description:
A 19th century pine document box, the hinged rectangular lid opening to an interior fitted with two small drawers and an open storage compartment 36.5 x 21 x 24.5 cm. Note: accompanied by two hand written pieces of paper attached to the underside of the lid, the lower sheet is dated 1811, the top sheet is inscribed 'This Box Is Made of a Part of the Victory's Foremast Which Ship Was Commanded by the Gallant Lord Nelson, the Said Mast Received Twenty Seven Shot (Sic) in the Undermentioned Sizes at the Famous Battle of Trafalgar on the 21st October 1805 and So Well Received As to Bring the Ship Home to Chatham Dock Yard: 2/32 Pounders; 6/24 Pounders; 5/18 Pounders; 4/12 Pounders; 6/6 Pounders 4 Also of Musket Balls.'
