Description:
Chinese hanging scroll, ink on paper, in running script, Ren Zheng, [1916-1999] signed with four seals, dated 1988, a poem by Zhang Ji [712-779]. Provenance: Ren Zheng was a friend of the vendor's mother & he went with his mother to visit the artist & was given this calligraphy before he set off on his adventure to study in Australia. Note: Ren Zheng born into a literary family in Huangyan town, Zhejiang Province. He followed his grandfather Ren Xinyi's into researching the Art of calligraphy and literature. Ren's font was used by newspapers including People's Daily, Wenhui Daily and Xinmin evening News in 1970s. He was honored with numerous domestic and international awards in 1980s and 1990s, including an international calligraphy competition jointly organized by Australia and Japan in 1983. In 1993, he was appointed to write the inscriptions for the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Ren Zheng was a research member in Shanghai Research Institute of culture and history. He was a board member of Chinese Calligraphers Association Shanghai & a senior consultant for Fudan University and Shanghai international studies University. 166 x 50 cm
