Description:
The Coronation portrait of 'Ranji' - Colonel H.H. Shri Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji, Maharaja jam Saheb of Nawanagar K.C.S.I. In his Coronation robes and jewellery, three-quarter length seated in a gilded throne chair with lion finial arms. Ranji wears a cream silk diamond-buttoned sherwani tunic with a pattern of gold and green flowers. He holds a jewelled sword tulwar (the traditional Rajput weapon), a diamond peacock sarpech in his gold and green turban. He wears a three-strand pearl necklace and a double-strand graduated emerald necklace, a seven-strand pearl sash with emerald dividers and a heavy pearl tassle. Oil on board, Nawanagar, 1907, 48.5 x 38 cm. The portrait is by K.S. Ranjitsinhji, 1872 - 1933.
