Description:
Recovered parts from the Lancaster W4929. 1661 heavy conversion unit, Winthorpe. Crashed in the Brecon Beacons, south Wales, Dived into the ground after flying into a storm at night, all eight crew were killer. One, the rear gunner, was Australian - flight Sgt Ernest M. Buckby of camp hill, Queensland. This Lancaster had been used extensively by 617 squadron in training for Dambusters raid. As it was a 'Standard' Lancaster, not converted to carry a bouncing bomb, it was not used in the raid.
