Sale Title: Sporting & General Memorabilia Session 1
Auction House: Charles Leski Auctions Pty. Ltd.
Auction Location: Melbourne
Date: 05/11/2008
Lot No.   ***
Description: Richie Benaud's Australian 'Baggy Green' 1957-58 Test Cap, green wool, embroidered Coat-of-Arms & '1957-58' on front, endorsed on Farmers label 'R.Benaud'. Vg condition, usual wear spot on brim where cap has been rubbed while being taken off. [Richie Benaud played 63 Tests 1951-64, including 28 as Australian captain. Benaud's slow maturing bore rich fruit in South Africa in 1957-58, when he took 30 Test wickets and made 327 in seven innings (once not out) for an average of 54.5. In all matches on that tour he took 106 wickets, a record in a South African first class summer, and made 817 runs. Richie Benaud remains, as the major cricket commentator for the Bbc & the Nine Network, a central part of the international game today]. Provenance: Ex Jack Norton, manager of the 1957-58 Australian tour to South Africa.
