Description:
A life-size hollow-cast bronze statue of Donald Bradman, by Carl Valerius, the naturalistically modelled figure capturing Bradman in 'cover' stance during play, his Australian 'Baggy Green' Test cricket cap bearing the year 1948, the landmark year when the team known as 'The Invincibles', captained by Bradman, went unbeaten against England for an entire British tour, raised on tubular steel base, together with a separate composite wooden plinth, inscribed 'Valerius' to the upper section of the figure's back. statue 163.5 cm high, plinth 120 cm diameter, 50 cm high. Accompanied by a letter from Russell Crowe stating his ownership. Provenance: Mr Russell Crowe, Sydney. The statue is believed to be an artist's proof of an identical figure which forms a part of Captains Walk, a display of forty two bronze statues of past Australian Test cricket captains located at Jubilee Park, in Bradman's birthplace of Cootamundra, New South Wales.
