Description:
1914 Warrick. Having left his trade as a gunsmith to work as an agent for 'The Monarch Carrier' (a tradesman's box tricycle) John Warrick also began working for the manufacturing company, T W Pitt, as an engineer. With the appearance of the Auto Carrier in 1910 Warrick saw a business opportunity and ordered an AC and had his chief engineer dismantle it. Subsequently the 'Warrick Motor Carrier' was born and whilst seen by some as a blatant copy of the AC it was popular and endorsed by the large London department store, Selfridges. There were improvements made from the initial AC design and the vehicle was powered by a slightly larger engine. The vehicle was mildly developed throughout its production life with a reverse gear in use by 1912 and front wheel brakes offered as an optional extra by 1915. Overseas sales of the Warrick were steady and a number of examples were sold new to New Zealand in chassis form and bodied locally. This particular Warrick was delivered new to New Zealand in rolling chassis form and a body was constructed locally to meet requirements. Purchased by the current vendor around ten years ago it has been completely restored in the form of a delivery vehicle by Bob Harrison of Chirstchurch and is offered for sale in superb cosmetic condition. Warricks are a rare find and this well presented example would make an interesting museum display although we are informed by the vendor that it 'motors well' and would thus be equally suitable for Veteran Car Club rallies.
