A Japanese stoneware Hibachi (hand warmer), Ito Tozan (1846-1920), of cylindrical form and tapering inwards, Kyo-yaki stone Ware base with Ukibori (raised relief) decoration of sparse white chrysanthemums and pierced rectangular sections on opposing sides, with accompanying presentation box, 24 cm high, History: Ito Tozan I was a leading figure in the Kyoto ceramics world during the late Meiji and Taisho eras. His work is in the collections of Museum of fine arts, Boston, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Tokyo National Museum. In 1917, he was appointed a Teishitsu Gigeiin or Imperial Artist.
