Description:
A Cizhou stoneware teabowl, Yuan Dynasty (1280-1368), covered in a brown to black glaze, the interior with a continuous band of vertical russet stripes on the steeply sloping rim, the exterior with some russet streaks, the double-dipped glaze pooling just above the foot, 8 cm high 16.5 cm diameter. Reference: see Robert Barron, Heaven and earth Seen within, new Orleans Museum of Art, 2000, cat. No. 42, pp. 114, colour plate p. 115 for a similar example but with two interior russet bands, attributed to Hebei province. Provenance: acquired in Hong Kong 2002
