Description:
16th/17th century English oak coffer with a later hinged plank top, a feathered frieze, a three panel facade carved with doves drinking from a chalice flanked by dual dragons and block supports. Accompanying this coffer is a typed sheet with the following information: 'This chest Was made for the Marriage of Henry VII to Catherine of Aragon in 1501. It is carved with the Royal badge of Henry VII, the Welsh dragons, the central panel is carved with the symbol of marriage, two doves drinking from one chalice surmounted by a fleur-de-lis embodying a pomegranate with the badge of Catherine of Aragon. On the death of Arthur, Henry who later became King Henry VIII married the widow Catherine'
