Description:
A Royal Worcester 18 Piece desert service dated 1874 (printed marks), consisting of 12 plates, 2 tazzas and 4 footed plates, each piece having a celadon green background with gilded outer borders, the 6 serving items each having gilded, scrolled feet, the decoration consisting of sprays of flowers on one side and raised enamelled birds and insects (which appear English, such as robins, swallows etc), painted the opposite side to the flowers. Most pieces have the pattern number '9357' George Hundley (b, 1841, worked at the factory 1850's - 1897) painted the flowers. John Hopewell (b, 1834, worked at the factory 1855 - 1890) painted the naturalistic birds and insects, subjects of which it was said, he became the master of.
