Richard Simkin 1850-1926 (British) 'Lumsden with the Guides' (Sir Harry Burnett Lumsden) gouache and watercolour. Signed LR and dated 1880. 41 x 80 cm. Note: The black and white print of this watercolour appears in the book 'The Story of the Guides' by Colonel G. J. Younghusband C.B. 1908. Refer also 'A sketch of the life of Lt. Gen. Sir Peter S. Lumsden G.S.B., C.S.I. & Geo. Elsmil C.S.I. The use of the word 'Guide' in this context was coined by Sir Harry Burnett Lumsden
