Description:
A French boulle style and ormolu, three door credenza. Late 19th century. The credenza is decorated in the 'Boulle' style with pierced-cut brass and red tortoiseshell inlay, against a black 'Ebonized' patinated finish. The cabinet has a serpentine front with a central boulle panel door, flanked by side cupboards. The two side cupboards have curved glass doors with juxtaposition figural corbels depicting neoclassical style busts of French maidens. The top cabinet edges, base and door panels, feature applied ormolu beading. Height 113 cm. Length 203 cm. Depth 50 cm. Provenance: Ex Whiteman Estate, Christies c.1991 Perth. Note: the term 'Boulle' refers to the style created by French cabinet maker 'Andre-Charles boulle 1642 - 1732', using polished brass and stained tortoiseshell marquetry inlay
