1873 bronze medal Awarded to Major Edmund, Frederick DuCane (1830-1903), the medal depicts profile portrait and inscription 'Albert, Edward Prince of Wales President' and verso 'London, Annual International Exhibition of All Fine Arts, Industries and Inventions MDCCCLXXIII', the outer rim is inscribed 'Major E. F. Du Cane, C.B.R.E. Catalogue No 2350 and For Services', diameter 70 mm, with fitted case. From 1851 to 1856 Edmund DuCane was employed in organising convict labour on public works in the swan, river colony, which was then devoted to penal, purposes under the command of Captain Edmund, Henderson, He was promoted to first Lieutenant on 17th Feb 1854 &, was stationed at Guildford in charge of the works in the eastern districts of the colony to York and Toodyay, He was made a magistrate of the colony and a visiting, magistrate of convict stations, in 1856 he departed Fremantle and was recalled back, to England for duty at the war office, from 1863 his services with the war office ended and he was appointed Director on the board of convict, Prisons and Inspector of military Prisons, 1873 awarded C.B. (Companion of the Order of the Bath-civil division) promoted to rank of Major., 1877 awarded K.C.B. (Knight Commander of the Bath), in recognition for his work in prison reform
