Merric Boyd Pottery bowl,…

Sale Title: The Berry Collection Day 1
Auction House: Young's Auctions
Auction Location: Melbourne
Date: 24/08/2008
Lot No.   ***
Description: Merric Boyd Pottery bowl, decorated with 3 applied koalas climbing amongst tree branch decoration. Green & blue glazes on a very sturdy body. Incised on the base, 'Merric Boyd, 1932'. With Ngv exhibition label. An exceptional piece. It is rare to come across Boyd's work decorated with koalas. This bowl is a wonderful example of his hand-modelled pottery, incorporating his trademark 'windswept' shape of the tree that encompasses the bowl. One koala appears hanging off a thin branch and another koala seems almost to be reaching to help him. The third koala watches in amusement. Illustrated inside front cover. Height: 14 x 32 cm wide
