Description: Pair of Very Rare Sterling Silver Entrée Dishes with lids and warming bases. Solid silver chafing dishes and lids which bear the arms of Pitt and Amherst. [This represents the marriage of an heraldic heiress. Note the two crests, one for Amherst and the other for Pitt on the reverse side and also on the chafing dish]. Warming bases of quality Sheffield Plate hallmarked with criss-cross pattern of 4 arrows each way, a flower head alongside. Hot water jacket plate which sits on top has opening lid for water and is also of Sheffield Plate. Maker - John S. Hunt, London c. 1845-46. Also the name of [Hunt and Roskell. Late Storr Mortimer Hunt #2359]. Weight of Chafing Dish and Lid 2.15kg. Total weight of each combined unit 4.5kg. Height 26 cm Base Height 9 cm Chafing dish Width 37 cm
