*** Japanese Ivory Chess Set (c mid-20th C), A spectacular hand carved ivory chess set, with pieces housed in fi tted individual drawers within a custom made rosewood table (80 x 80 x 60 cm). The table is probably Chinese. The chess pieces are natural white and traditional light brown stained. The kings and queens measure 15 cm tall. The entire offering is in mint condition and must be seen to be appreciated ***
*** Howard Stauton 'J.Jaques London' Chess Set, c1865. A boxwood and ebony set, heavily weighted and felted with 'Jaques London' inscribed on the base of both Kings. A very attractive set with heavily carved Steinitz-style Knights with the drilled out pupils. The set comes in an undivided, green felt lined mahogany bo x with original green label showing: 'the Staunton Chess-Men. The set is complete, some with minor damage to be expected with a set this age. A chance to own a true rarity made by the finest ***
